GUK 3.0 statewide kickoff rally scheduled for March 23rd

GEAR UP Kentucky 3.0 will host a kickoff rally to launch the program statewide on March 23 at Holmes Middle School in Covington, KY. The key message of this event is that the Class of 2021 (the first cohort of GUK 3.0) is beginning their plan to earn a college degree TODAY! Seventh graders from all three Northern Kentucky GUK 3.0 schools – Holmes Middle School, Newport Middle School, and Bellevue High School–will come together for the rally and then will visit the campus of Northern Kentucky University.

The kickoff rally will feature Kentucky education leaders voicing their support for GUK students as well as a former GEAR UP student sharing her experience with the program. The event will include prize giveaways and each student will receive a Class of 2021 t-shirt and an introductory packet of information about GUK 3.0 for themselves and their parents. Additionally, each student will receive a personalized 21st Century Scholars Certificate with information about the potential financial aid available to them to help pay for college.

GEAR UP Kentucky 3.0 serves 29 middle schools across the state. Because it is not logistically possible to bring all of our schools together in one location for this event, the event will be streamed live over the Web so that all schools can participate remotely. The week of March 19, schools will receive an official GUK 3.0 Launch Kit, which will include t-shirts, GUK information packets,  a “We Are a GEAR UP Kentucky School” banner and other materials so that they may assemble their 7th graders to watch the live broadcast and celebrate the launch of the program in their school.
