GEAR UP Kentucky 3.0 hosted a statewide launch event Friday, March 23 at Holmes High School Auditorium in Covington, Kentucky. The key message of this student-focused event was that the Class of 2021 (the first cohort of GUK 3.0) is beginning their plan to earn a college degree TODAY! Approximately 450 seventh graders from three Northern Kentucky GUK 3.0 schools – Holmes Middle School, Newport Middle School, and Bellevue High School–came together for the launch and visited the campus of Northern Kentucky University for college awareness activities. The launch program  featured several Kentucky education leaders voicing their support for GUK 3.0 students as well as a former GEAR UP student sharing her experience with the program.

GUK 3.0 will serve more than 10,000 students at 29 middle schools across the state. Because we cannot logistically bring all of our schools together in one location for this event, GEAR UP KY partnered with the Kentucky Department of Education to offer a live Webcast so that all schools can participate remotely. Prior to the event, each school received an official GUK 3.0 Launch Kit (including T-shirts and GUK information packets for each 7th grade student) to hold a celebration at their school.
